A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Team, Company, and Culture

Take a look behind-the scenes at Paper & Coin. Our team breaks down what keeps them inspired, their can’t-live-without products, and their financial priorities.

VICTORIA BEVILACQUA, Marketing & Operations Director

What’s my ‘why’?

You only get one shot at life - I want to do it my way. That's why I work with people who share my values and understand that, at the end of the day, your happiness is just as important as your career. It's good vibes all around!

My corgi, George. That probably sounds like a weird choice but he gets me up and outside every morning no matter the weather. After a walk and some fresh air my head is way more clear and I'm ready to tackle whatever the day brings!

Don’t @ me but …

I love the Kardashians and I’m not going to apologize for it, ok?

What I’m spending on.

I just revamped my wardrobe and it was definitely a huge investment. But, before I start adding to cart I do a thorough purge of my clothing to get rid of the pieces I’m no longer wearing. Next, I assess what I have and what I need to refresh for my day-to-day life, meeting days, workouts and nights out. That way I’m not buying items I already have or don’t really need.

What I’m saving on.

The quarantine taught me that at-home workouts are actually pretty effective and going for a jog is, you know, free. While I DEFINITELY miss my regular studio classes, it’s been nice to save a little bit while I wait for them to reopen.

My morning routine

George is spoiled. So, he’s always the first order of business. The next is definitely coffee and breakfast. Then, I sit down, go through my Notes, assess my to-do list, and set my priorities for the day. By the time 9 AM rolls around, I like to be well on my way to checking things off.

My nighttime ritual

My apartment has an amazing bathtub which is a total rarity in most tiny Toronto spaces so I end most nights there, soaking away the day’s stress and my evening workout. I try really hard not to look at my phone after and opt for a book instead. Usually I fail, but, right now I’m reading Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, and it’s been keeping me away from the Instagram rabbit hole.

JOCELYNNE FLOR, Social Media & Creative Director

What’s my ‘why’?

To cultivate my own definition of success and a life well-lived. For me, that means doing work that feels good, fuels my creativity, and makes a positive impact in the community.

Don’t @ me but …

Cauliflower isn’t pizza crust.

What I’m spending on.

Skincare. I like to keep my routine minimal with just a handful of products, but I tend to spend a bit more on those products because good quality ingredients and sustainable packaging are important to me.

What I’m saving on.

At the beginning of this year, I looked at how much I spent on UberEats last year and nearly passed out. I love cooking, and now that I’m spending a lot more time at home, I cook multiple meals a day. I’m lucky to have a pretty well-stocked kitchen so whenever I’m craving a specific food, I can just make it on my own instead of spending way too much on delivery fees.

My morning routine

I check my phone first thing (a bad habit I’m trying to kick), pour myself a huge glass of water, make my morning matcha latte, and enjoy a slow morning before diving into work.

My nighttime ritual

I cozy up and binge watch whatever I’m currently loving on YouTube until I can’t keep my eyes open - always with f.lux and Quick Shade on so the blue light from my screen doesn’t disrupt my sleeping pattern!

CINDY MARQUES, Financial Coach & Content Strategist

What’s my ‘why’?

To live life on my own terms, celebrate progress from failures, and turn heads as an innovator within my industry.

My waterproof bluetooth speaker, because impromptu solo dance parties and singalongs are my favourite way to cook, clean, exercise, and exist.

Don’t @ me but …

I’m an android user and you’ll never convince me to buy an iphone.

What I’m spending on.

Outdoor furniture and garden supplies to make my back- and front yards an oasis during quarantine… also an oversized kiddie pool. Absolute game changer for those real hawttt days.

What I’m saving on.

Restaurants and takeout.  Cooking has become a therapeutic way to stay productive at home and save a TON of money!  Also fuel.  Gas prices are crazy cheap and yet we all have nowhere to go...

My morning routine

Frantically wake up and check my calendar to make sure I haven’t slept in for a meeting… then hit snooze another 3 times.  By the fourth alarm my cat has had enough of it and will paw my face until I get up.  Then we enjoy breakfast al fresco on the front porch while we people-watch, followed by some time in the backyard with my veggie garden, fussing over my plants.

My nighttime ritual

Before I get too comfortable for the evening I head out to water and tend to my veggie garden, which usually also includes fending off the hefty racoons that hang out.  Then I head inside and get cozy on the couch to binge-watch way too many episodes of something in one sitting before passing out.

JESSICA ORENSE, Graphic & Web Designer

What’s my ‘why’?

To create meaningful work, travel the world and gain new perspectives, build strong relationships and connections, all while eating good food along the way.

I recently bought a subscription to Envato Elements and love the selection of fonts, mockups and stock images.

Don’t @ me but …

I'll never call Toronto The 6ix (but ilu Drake).

What I’m spending on.

I wanted to make sure I didn't stay glued sitting in front of my computer during this quarantine, so I joined a fitness challenge with my trainer. It's an intense workout five times a week with a small group over zoom. I'm the type who needs to be held accountable and yelled at to work out, so this program has helped me move every day and stay motivated.

What I’m saving on.

I love food, which equated to a big chunk of my paycheck going towards eating out at restaurants. Luckily enough during this lockdown my family has spoiled me with some amazing meals. Another big one would be travelling. I try to go away a couple of times during the year but currently I'll be home saving for my next dream vacay.

My morning routine

I head to the washroom to brush my teeth and on the way there I shake the mouse on my desktop to make sure it's awake by the time I get back. I start doing all my morning tasks for the first half an hour. This mainly includes signing on to slack, archiving and responding to emails so I get my inbox to zero, then making my to-do list for the day. Then I'll head to the kitchen to make a simple breakfast and coffee.

My nighttime ritual

I turn on my diffuser and put on a playlist that matches my mood. I try to journal before bed then watch a couple of youtube videos or play animal crossing until I get sleepy. And right as I'm about to knock out I make sure turn on one of headspace's sleepcast. My go-to is Rainy Day Antiques and Monsoon Hour.
